In 2017, the public and private sector endured—and sometimes led—a dramatic evolution of sustainability in business. We witnessed leaps forward and backward on renewable energy, human rights and immigration. As a result, U.S. and European companies across industries navigated how to best address environmental and social challenges, while maximizing their revenues. Hear from an interdisciplinary group of European business leaders, from energy producers to telecoms giants and financial services consultancies, as they discuss the year ahead in sustainable business.

9:15 – 10:00 Economic Autonomy in an Interdependent World

Europe has experienced tremendous transformation in the past two years, marked by the Brexit vote, Catalonia’s independence referendum, and Italy’s Lombardy region’s referendum to vote on greater autonomy. In an interdependent world, how do these changes impact incoming and outgoing investments, economic stability, and the broader global market? Corporate and institutional leaders will provide their unique perspective on these questions, as well as on the effects on businesses with a financial stake in the matter.

10:15 – 11:15 U.S. Tax Reform: Implications for the Global Market

The recent passage of the U.S. tax bill sent shockwaves through the global economy, with a new set of laws for corporations that hold the potential to reshape how organizations conduct businesses worldwide. The reduced corporate rate, along with the switch to a territorial system, suggests a large change in how U.S. multinationals operate and invest worldwide, especially across the Atlantic, where relationships run deep. Economists and tax experts will discuss what this reform means for the global economy, and how businesses will adapt to the largest change in the tax code in the past 30 years.
